The fabulous introspective and heart string pulling acoustic track, "Scared of the Dark" by North Carolina singer-songwriter Reid West is what I would call a "quiet scream" that one may miss if you don't pay VERY close attention to the lyrics.

The track begins with a pleasing acoustic guitar that draws you in, anticipating the vocal that chimes in with a melancholy introspective charm that is both pleasing and easy to listen to. However, the lyrics are just as intense as any gothic/metal rage onslaught I've heard.
What I mean by this is when you hear lyrics such as "my darkness never leaves me past......somewhere beyond moving on and dwelling in my shame..." as well as lines like "overthinking in my head tells me I'm the one to blame...moving on from you is way too hard, when I'm scared of the dark"---is that if you have a soul, then it's crushed by the pain and imagery evoked by the combination of the melody and those lyrics.
The solitude of the acoustic guitar and well-sung lyrics (and great vocal projection by West in the chorus especially) really beg the listener to listen and contemplate the situation that is being described in such fabulous detail.
I encourage anyone who loves great lyrical imagery (regardless of what their favorite genre of music is) to listen to this very sincere composition.
